Gig Write Up Route 44, 11th December 2009

What a great night at Route 44. We predict that this place will become one of the best venues to gig in the whole of Birmingham. Our hats are off to “Kite” the Sound and Lighting Engineer for a fantastic job. Nothing phases this guy and he really knows his onions. The set up was really quick. We had a technical problem at the start of the sound check but Kite sorted it in a jiffy and we were back on track.

We also have to say a big thank you to the Quinton Lads for travelling all the way over to Acocks Green. It was a really nice surprise to see them walk in when we were on stage. “It was no problem” they said, “7 Buses and a bit of a walk and we were here” Not really, one of them kindly offered to drive the rest of them. Well done guys. It’s nice to know that we are getting a bit of a following, we appreciate your support. See you at the next one…….

Important Announcement

Picking a band name was never going to be easy, so after a huge amount of scratching heads and furrowed brows, we all decided on a name. At that time we were not sure if the band would gel and because a lot of the really good names had been taken, we settled on "Stay U2".

That said, we have now been together for a couple of years and we are proud to have such a large and loyal following. We love what we are doing and all those people who come to see us, drive us on to become better and better. And because we want to become better and be noticed we have decided on a band name change.

Those of you who regularly check out our web site will have read our history of how we came together and will know that Joel came from a great band called "The Unforgettable Fire". Unfortunately that band has since folded and after much discussion, and with the permission of those previous band members, we have decided to take the name of "The Unforgettable Fire". We consider this to be a great band name and would like to honour the previous members by using their original name to carry the torch forward.

There are a few logistics to sort out, like how we let every one know about the change or how we change the web site without losing any of our fans but we hope to have the name change sorted by the first week in July 2009.

Regards,

The Unforgettable Fire, (Formerly, Stay U2)

The Knights Quest. Rowley Regis, West Midlands                             Date: 8th June 2009

The word is definitely spreading. Having played the "Knights" twice before, there were noticeably some new faces in the audience last night and there were some hard line U2 fans amongst the crowd. From the start to the finish people were singing their heads off. The dance floor was rammed and everyone had a great time. So did we! Thanks Folks we can't wait to get back there on the 23rd October 2009.

The Broadstone was just electric...                                                        Date: 25th April 2009

This was the first time that we have played at the Broadstone. What do StayU2 say… "Great Venue, Great Gig and all made possible by some great people running the place and a great audience who came to see us".

This place was just electric. These people certainly know how to party. The drinks were flowing all night. Hopefully, if the photographer keeps his word, we should have some photo's for the web site soon. So keep your eye out for your face on our site.

Thank you to the Broadstone for giving us a great night gigging.

We look forward to the next one. - Broadstone, The Square Retford, DN22 6DJ

A sad farewell to Sheldon & Kite...                                                         Date: 11th April 2009

Live music at the Sheldon marquee has been part of the Birmingham music scene since longer than a lot of us care to remember and the man that has arranged most of that music in recent years is Kite.

The Sheldon, some times known as the Chestnuts, has seen the glory days with top bands playing there on a regular basis and over the years the place has been packed to the rafters with customers who love live music. But, over recent times those numbers have dropped off. Last year the Sheldon underwent a serious make over but still the punters have failed to make an appearance like they used to.

Is it because the punters have got sick of listening to live music, ? We don't think so. Is it because people have heard the classics too many times and have got sick of hearing them, ? We don't think so. Is it because venues have got greedy and charge too much, ? It has to be said that some have. Is because that some Bands have become greedy and insist on charging too much, ? It has to be said that some do. In this case, it would appear that the management, for what ever reason, have decided that they do not want to continue to have live music at the venue. Shame on them, is what we say. In this current financial climate, every one is feeling the pinch and l dare say that the Sheldon is no exception but having no entertainment there is going drive the numbers even lower. A point that we feel the management are missing.

Kite, will move on and l am sure will find something else. I am sure that we speak for a lot of people in the music business when we say, the management at the Sheldon will be loosing out Double for not having live music and for not having Kite. Good luck Kite.

The Band say, "Well done Tardebigge"...                                               Date: 7th March 2009

The very first time that we played at the Tardebigge, we were given a fantastic welcome and we had a brilliant night. So you would think that things couldn't get better……. Wrong!!! This crowd are top notch. They love their U2 sounds and nothing was going to stop them from having a great night. The band loved the crowd and the crowd loved the band. So on it went, feeding and building from each other all the time. At the end of the night and after several encores, both the band and the audience were exhausted. That's what you call a great gig!!!!!!! Stay//U2 say, "Well done Tardebigge, cant wait for the next gig on the 25th July 2009"

Looking forward to playing at the River Rooms...

Stay U2 have a new gig at the River Rooms, Stourbridge, Mill Race Lane. DY8 1JN. On Friday the 8th May 2009. This place has been going for years under the name of the Rock Cafe 2000. The owner recently gave the place a complete make over and a new name to relaunch itself.

We are very excited about playing there and hope that all you manage to come along and party with us... it should be good - very good!!   See www.theriverrooms.com

Stay U2 review 'No line on the horizon'...

U2 once again show that they can re-invent themselves but are still as recognizable as ever. There are some stand out tracks on this album, Breath, Stand up comedy, and Magnificent. After only the first listen we will have to wait to see if it turns out like a lot of U2's more recent albums. They start to creep under your skin, and before you know it, you are humming one of those tunes that at first you weren't quite sure about. Then suddenly you realise that you are hooked.
Nice one boys !

'Get on your boots' - definitely a live First for Stay U2. Another consideration is that U2 excel in performing live. Listening to a U2 album is only part of the story. Most fans want to see and hear U2 music live and the songs from this new album will be no exception. Stay U2 has already performed songs from the New Album, in fact despite another U2 tribute laying claim to the privilege of being the first to play "Get on your boots", they weren't. We definitely were!!! Within 24 hours of its release we had learnt the song and within two days we had played it live and we will continue to bring U2's newest songs to the live scene.

Great news for U2 fans ...

Many U2 fans will aready be aware that they have just released a new album 'No line on the horizon'. ...and of course as you would expect we rushed out and bought a copy. We are very excited about it, but of course it means we now have to get busy in the studio!

Stay U2 new website ...

Existing Stay U2 fans will know this is a brand new area and a brand new website - which we are all pumped up about and have great plans for. As yet we haven't finished writing all the bits and pieces that will be going online shortly. But watch this space!
